Confession: "New York is the best woman I have ever loved... or at least she is in the top 3"
Nick LaClair: Detroit > The Sea > Brooklyn & Guatemala
Photographer, Film Maker, Mezcal Bartender & World Traveler
Confession: "I'm straight but you could never tell by my "lifestyle""
Nick, who is the photographer on this project began taking these black & white film portraits in Guatemala (where he now spends part of the year). The portraits were mostly of different characters who frequent Café No Sé, the bar that Ilegal Mezcal originates from & was smuggled to before it was legal. The Ilegal Confessions project utilizes social media & calls on people to share a defining moment where they stood up, sat down or just walked their own way their stories with us online. The end result is a completely spontaneous and original set of stories that spans continents.
While Nick's confession has been seen as controversial to some, it is his personal stand against generalizations & boxes society so often puts everyone into. The statement sheds light on the fact that who we are friends with, what we look like and what our interests are have nothing to do with our sexual orientation or who we love.
